FREE PARKING JAZZ COMPOSERS' ENSEMBLE (FPJCE)
FPJCE at SOhO, July 2025: Tom with Randy Tico, Rob Kyle, Richard Weller and Kevin Winard
Our MISSION remains: To promote the development of performances and recordings of new music
The composers' ensemble has always featured the finest musicians and their original compositions from its inception to the present, and we continue to produce new recordings of innovative new music performed by our members.
Our first LP "Disguise/Delimit," featured performances by Steve Tavaglione, Mark Craney, Jon Crosse, Randy Tico, Michael O'Neill, Gregg Lee, Ron Wagner, Efrain Toro and Mike Fisher, all playing compositions by Tom Gastineau and Jon Crosse.
Three tracks from the LP were featured in Heavy Rotation on LA's Quiet Storm outlet, KUTE-FM, in 1985, before a tragic accident which nearly took the life of my older brother and first jazz teacher, pianist and composer Richard Gastineau (RIP). Though he survived the accident, he was hospitalized for what remained of his life, comforted mostly by our mother, Patty Gastineau (RIP), and my late wife Gala Gastineau (RIP).
Before his untimely passing in 1996, I promised Richard I would do my best to record as many of his compositions as possible by our FPJCE, in order to leave a legacy for his son Nicholas. Recordings for our next CDs are in process and will include some of Richard's work.
Scores and parts for many of Richard's original works were lost after the accident, but we know many were performed by members of his groups during the '70s & early '80s, and if anyone seeing this has copies of any music sheets, charts, or scores by Richard Gastineau, PLEASE CONTACT ME!! Many thanks!
“I thought that sounded like a long lost Weather Report track when I listened to what you sent me!” - Jon Crosse, longtime Music Director for Paul Anka, Jazz composer, multi-instrumentalist, & Jazz educator
